Luxembourg/Wrocław, June 4, 2008. The CEV, along with the Polish Volleyball Federation, sadly announces the premature death of Mrs. Agata Mróz-Olszewska, a former member of the National Team which won two consecutive gold medals at the Women’s European Championships in 2003 and 2005.

Born in Tarnow in 1982, Mrs. Mroz started her competitive career in her hometown and later on in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski before moving to the BKS Bielsko-Biała club; she played there from 2003 up to 2006 and along with her teammates she won the Polish National League in 2003 and 2004 as well as the Polish Cup in 2004 and 2006.

Standing at 191 cm, Ms. Mróz played as a middle-blocker and was a regular and consistent member of the Polish National Team. In 2006 she moved to Spain and joined Grupo Voleibol Murcia 2002; she brought her relevant contribution to a great season for the Spaniards, as they took home the Spanish National League and Spanish Cup as well as the CEV Top Teams Cup.

After having been diagnosed with leukemia, she decided to put an end to her competitive career. Last June 10, 2007 she got married to Mr. Jacek Olszewski and in January she announced her pregnancy. Her first and only daughter, Liliana, was born last April, 4.

Last May 22 she underwent a transplantation of bone marrow, which she was expected to benefit from. Still, she was not able to definitely win that battle and passed away today, early in the morning.

The CEV would like to express its condolences to her family and all her loved ones, as well as to the Polish Volleyball Federation and the entire local volleyball community.
